NK cells function as an interface between the innate and adaptive immune systems to defend against pathogen infection through several different strategies that quickly and accurately identify normal and infected cells. These natural killers also play an active role in adaptive immune response, by identifying infected cells and responding to neoplasm formation, acting at around 3 days after infection.
